36th Annual Scholastic Chess of Indiana Individual Championships

  1. The Finals will be at Hammond Central HS, 5926 Calumet Ave (enter off Highland or Eaton Streets), Hammond, IN 46320 on January 25, 2025
  2. The doors will open at 8:00AM Central (Chicago) time. Players should be in the building ready for the players' meeting by 8:30. Please allow time to find your way around what may be a large and unfamiliar campus. Play will begin immediately after the players' meeting. Players who are not present at the start of the first round may be forfeited.
  3. Sections will not necessarily all end at the same time, but most will probably go into late afternoon. Come prepared for a full day of chess.
  4. At the Finals, the High School Championship section will play 4 rounds at G/60;d5. The Middle School Championship and Elementary School Championship sections will play 5 rounds at G/45;d5. The High School JV section will play 5 rounds at G/40;d5. The Middle School JV, the Elementary School JV and Third Grade & Under sections will play 6 rounds at G/30;d5. The First Grade & Under section will play 5 rounds at G/25;d5.
  5. Sets and boards will be provided. Clocks will be provided only for games going long. Clocks will be added to games 20 minutes before the projected end time, with each player getting 10 minutes with a 5-second delay.
  6. Students who bring legal chess clocks will be allowed to use them.
  7. Notation will be required for all Championship sections and the High School Junior Varsity section.
  8. All sections at the Finals will be rated, and entrants must have a valid US Chess number to play.
  9. Spectators, including parents and coaches, will not be permitted in the playing areas.
  10. The winner of the High School Championship section will be the Indiana High School Champion and win the Teddy Jacobi scholarship. If he is otherwise qualified, he will be Indiana's representative to the Denker Tournament of High School Champions. The winner of the Middle School section will be the Indiana Middle School Champion and win the Billy Colias scholarship. If he is otherwise qualified, he will be Indiana's representative to the Barber Tournament of Middle School Champions. The winner of the Elementary School section will be the Indiana Elementary School Champion and win the Brian Yamin scholarship. If he is otherwise qualified, he will be Indiana's representative to the Rockefeller Tournament of Elementary School Champions.
