36th Annual Scholastic Chess of Indiana Individual Championships

Details and a link to the entry page below

  1. The Finals will be at Hammond Central HS, 5926 Calumet Ave, Hammond, IN 46320 on January 25, 2025
  2. There will be five qualifying Regionals. Students may play in the Regional of their choosing, but may play in only one Regional.
  3. We will play in five age groups: High School, for grades 9-12; Middle School, for grades 6-8; Elementary School, for Grades 5 & Under; Third Grade & Under; and First Grade & Under.
  4. In the High School, Middle School, and Elementary School age groups there will be two sections - a Championship section and a Junior Varsity section. Players above a certain rating level (1399 in High School, 999 in Middle School, and 749 in Elementary School) will qualify directly for the Finals and will not play in a regional. Third Grade & Under, First Grade & Under, and Junior Varsity players will need to qualify for the Finals by taking part in a Regional.
  5. Any Junior Varsity players who have perfect scores in their section at a Regional will be invited to play in the Championship section at Finals.
  6. The Regional entry fee is $20 until December 28. Entries after that are $30. All regional entries must be received by 9:00PM on January 2.
  7. For those qualifying by rating for the High School, Middle School, or Elementary School Championship sections, the entry fee is $35. The entry deadline is 9:00PM on January 20.
  8. For those qualifying in a Regional, there will be an additional entry fee of $15 for the Finals.
  9. The January 25 rating supplement will be used to determine who qualifies for the Championship sections, with one exception. If a student has been over the rating cutoff in any of the 2024 rating supplements (January 24 to December 24), he may play up in the Championship section regardless of current rating.
  10. We are aiming for 16 players in the Championship sections. If there are 16 or fewer players in a Championship section, we will play four rounds at the Finals. If there are more than 16, we will play five rounds with a faster time control.
  11. The Regional tournaments will not be rated, but all sections at the Finals will be rated.
  12. The winner of the High School Championship section will be the Indiana High School Champion and win the Teddy Jacobi scholarship. If he is otherwise qualified, he will be Indiana's representative to the Denker Tournament of High School Champions. The winner of the Middle School section will be the Indiana Middle School Champion and win the Billy Colias scholarship. If he is otherwise qualified, he will be Indiana's representative to the Barber Tournament of Middle School Champions. The winner of the Elementary School section will be the Indiana Elementary School Champion and win the Brian Yamin scholarship. If he is otherwise qualified, he will be Indiana's representative to the Rockefeller Tournament of Elementary School Champions.
